Ways to Advocate for Change

This week on The Big Talk, I am joined by the amazing Hope Mohr. Hope and I have known each other for years and even toured the world together as dancers.

Today, she is joining me on the show as we talk about art, social change, privilege, advocacy, and so much more.

As a working artist and a licensed California attorney, Hope works at the intersection of art and social change as a Fellow with the Sustainable Economies Law Center. She has woven art and activism for decades as a choreographer, curator, and writer.

She founded Hope Mohr Dance to create and support embodied art and social change. And its core program, The Bridge Project, is a non-profit that creates and supports equity-driven live art that builds community and centers artists as agents of change.

As a lawyer, Hope supports nonprofits and cultural workers to navigate the law and develop value-aligned structures and agreements. As an activist, she has worked for women’s rights and environmental justice through such organizations as AmeriCorps, Earthjustice, and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

In this episode, we’ll explore:

  • How to articulate your personal story into political action
  • The power of voices joining together in community
  • Using your privilege to advocate for change
  • How to have the hard conversations
  • Hope’s current favorites: Book: The Waves by Virginia Wolf, Speaker: Barack Obama, and Podcast: Finding Our Way
