Women’s Rights Speeches are Still Powerful Today

This week, I’m sharing a book I was recently gifted from a friend called Lend Me Your Ears: Great Speeches in History, selected and introduced by William Safire.

This incredible collection has all kinds of talks ranging from patriotic speeches to tributes to debates to commencement addresses and everything in between!

And this episode will be the first in a series where I share with you some of these groundbreaking talks, starting with three powerful women’s rights speeches — rights we are still fighting for in 2022.

In this episode, we’ll explore:

  • A speech given by suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton given in 1868 at the Women’s Suffrage Convention in Washington
  • A speech given by evangelist Sojourner Truth in 1843 in New York City
  • A speech given by women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony given in 1872 after she attempted to vote in the presidential election
  • Why these women’s rights speeches are still so important and resonate today
